Wonders of Nature: The Sound of Million Monarch Butterflies is Absolute Magic
With their alluring wings coated black, orange and white, the Monarch Butterflies are some of the world’s most majestic-looking butterfly species. Entomologist and famous TV personality Phil Torres has recently documented the monarchs in Mexico’s Sierra Chincua Reserve, where after a sleepy winter they are ready to migrate up north the continent by the millions.
In the short video released as part of his YouTube series The Jungle Diaries, Torres explains that the sight of so many butterflies is not only visually and emotionally stunning, but also makes for a unique audible experience. These tiny, fragile creatures produce one of the rarest sounds on all of Earth. You can listen to it in the video.
Over the last two decades, the Monarch Butterflies populations have generally decreased, however, the good news this season is that their numbers look improved. They remain around to remind us what a wondrous place our planet is and it’s our duty to protect such kind of beauty.
