MAGICAL THINGS OF THE WORLD
Wonders & Wonders is a boutique decor and gift shop specializing in the old, the magical, the beautiful, and the curious. All of our products are hand picked out of thousands. Many of them exotic one of a kind pieces with a rich history, stories to tell and a feeling of aliveness.

We seek things that inspire wonder, illumination and transformation. A backdrop that will summon new visions and ideas. A stage for a more creative life.

THE WORLD IS A MIRROR
Science has discovered that the things we surround ourselves with - people, objects, places - start to affect us. Humans are environmental beings, we mirror the world around us.

“We design our world, while our world acts back on us and designs us.” - Anne-Marie Willis

As our thoughts shape our spaces and the spaces return the favour by shaping our thoughts it becomes more important to create an environment that will bring the qualities you want into your life. Our mindset and the setting we are in are closely connected. A painting on the wall can give the spark for a great revelation. Just like an old book might hold the secret for something you have searched for a long time.

Creating consciously designed spaces allows us to raise the stage in which our lives unfold.

WISHES COME TRUE
If you had one wish, what would it be? We put aside a part of each purchase to make one dream come true every year. It can be anything from a child’s most miraculous vision to something that affects us all - like the planet and the health of it’s forests and wildlife. Anything that makes the world, even just a little bit more beautiful place to live.

The first wish will come true in 2020.

Wonders & Wonders founder Kevinski on designing wonder inspiring spaces and why we need more magic in our lives.

Q: Can you tell little about the role of environment and how it affects our imagination, inspiration and creativity?

A: Imagination is the true magic carpet, but it needs inspiration to get off from the ground. If we design dull cityscapes of endless grey glass buildings and decorate all of our rooms with the same sterile plain mass produced furniture and decor, then no wonder why people feel depressed and not inspired most of the time. We are the products of our environments after all. If you want to change the way you feel then the most easiest way to do it is to change the space you are in. And by space i don't mean only the room you are in, but the clothes that you are wearing, the people you hang around, the information you consume etc.

The mind is a mirror in that sense and it is more connected to the setting it is in than we have previously thought about. If you want to clear your thoughts you go for a walk. If you want to feel less stressed you go to the forest. If you want to do inner work you need a mystical, sacred environment that creates the right setting, which can lead to transformation and redirect the course of your life. Ask yourself what kind of life you want to lead and then create the stage for that kind of a life.

Q: Why we need more magic in our lives, how can wonder save the world and what it all has to do with our mental health?

A: In order to explain why we need more magic in our lives it is important to first define what magic is. There has been different definitions throughout history, but Alan Moore’s is foundational. He says that if you look at the very earliest descriptions of magic it is often referred to as “the art”. This is believed to be completely literal. Magic is art and art whether that be writing, music, sculpture or any other form is literally magic. Art is, like magic, the science of manipulating symbols, words or images to achieve changes in consciousness.

Therefore it is something that you can only experience as it happens outside the mind. More like poetry, love or life, it is not a problem to be solved, but a mystery to be experienced. It can only be felt. Do not try to analyse the experience. Just experience. It can give us a deeper connection to the mystery of everything that is. We can feel this child like state of wonder and re-connect to life. This creates a deeper meaning for being that we lack.

We see in todays world a huge loss of meaning and joy of life. As a consequence the ability to be astonished and surprised slowly starts to fade. That often leads people to existential tedium. The capability to feel connected to other people and the world around them starts to diminish. This cuts them, specially younger ones, off from their history, their culture and roots. Without the roots it becomes hard to build their present and future. There is no fundament to lay it on.

If we put all of our trust onto technological progress as the only possible and right way forward then we can lose our ability to create deep connections between people, generations and cultures. We might be left without the vital feelings of belonging and connectedness. There isn't a worse way of alienation than to feel yourself without roots, without a home and without belonging to nowhere. The feeling of aloneness is the cause of all addictions. We have this vast abyss inside all of us that we try to fill with different things. But it can only be filled with love, being connected to yourself, to other people and to the world around you. We need to think about how to build connectedness and magic is a wonderful thing to do it.
